Bringing home a new plant is exciting… but also a little risky. Even the prettiest plant can secretly host unwanted guests 👀
So let's talk about THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE in plant care:
🚪 STEP 1: UNPACK LIKE A PRO
DO NOT open your new plant near your collection. Bathroom, balcony, or outside = GOOD Living room jungle = VERY BAD 😅
- Open carefully
- Put everything on paper or in a bag
- THROW AWAY ALL PACKAGING IMMEDIATELY
(Yes, even if it looks clean. We are not trusting cardboard today)
🔍 STEP 2: INSPECT LIKE A DETECTIVE
Look VERY CLOSELY, especially under the leaves.
Check for:
- Spider mites
- Thrips
- Aphids
- Whiteflies
Whitefly eggs = YELLOW, BIG, VERY VISIBLE (Luckily, they didn't even try to hide 🙃)

🧽 STEP 3: IF YOU FIND EGGS
DO NOT PANIC.
- Use tape to remove them
- Repeat until the tape is clean
- Focus on leaf veins and corners
REPEAT THIS AFTER 3–4 DAYS
If you are consistent, you can WIN WITHOUT CHEMICALS 💪
🚿 STEP 4: SHOWER TIME (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
EVERY NEW PLANT GETS A SHOWER. NO EXCEPTIONS.
IMPORTANT:
Cover it with your hand or a bag.
Two options:
- If you removed eggs → rinse with strong water
- If clean → gently wash with soft sponge + soap, leave 5 min, rinse
Be gentle. The plant just survived shipping… it's been through enough 😅
🏠 STEP 5: ISOLATION MODE
BEST OPTION: Separate room with NO plants
Why? Because THRIPS CAN FLY UP TO 50 METERS 😳 (Yes. They have wings AND bad intentions.)
No extra room?
- Use a separate corner
- Add a plastic bag "greenhouse" for 1–2 weeks
If you see bugs inside → BACK TO THE BATHROOM 🚿
🪤 STEP 6: ADD A STICKY TRAP
This is your tiny security system 🟡 Catches flying pests before they start drama.
🔁 STEP 7: CHECK, CHECK, CHECK
- Inspect every 3–4 days MINIMUM
- Ideally EVERY DAY (especially in summer)
Even if the plant looks fine → KEEP CHECKING Because pests love surprises.

🐛 STEP 8: IF PESTS APPEAR
And they might. They LOVE late entrances.
- Spider mites → regular showers work
- Thrips → wash + treat
- Whiteflies → tape + repeat + treatment
Then… YES… BACK TO QUARANTINE 😄
⏳ STEP 9: HOW LONG?
MINIMUM: 4 WEEKS CLEAN
IDEAL: 6–8 WEEKS ISOLATION
ONLY THEN → introduce to your plant family 🌿
🐉 STEP 10: WE ADVISE ENTOMOPHAGES
After a few weeks of isolation, if you have found pests in the first weeks, use additionally entomophages — choosing the ones that help against exactly the pests you discovered. They will help you completely win over the tiniest pest that could be hidden from your eyes 👀 even after a few weeks!
All about entomophages you can find in our previous articles 🐉🪲
Pests are sneaky.
- Spider mites hide in soil
- Whiteflies have invisible stages
- Many pests can "sleep" and come back later
So if you skip quarantine…
YOU ARE BASICALLY INVITING CHAOS INTO YOUR HOME 😂
🌱 FINAL THOUGHT
Yes, it sounds like a lot.
But please, trust us — IT IS MUCH EASIER THAN TREATING YOUR ENTIRE COLLECTION.
Quarantine = PEACE OF MIND Skipping it = REGRET
Stay patient, stay consistent… and your plants and YOU will stay HAPPY 💚
